MY POST-SPM JOURNEY (Part 1)

Hi there!

So I've decided to start by sharing my experience regarding the transition from SPM to post-SPM.

I completed SPM in 2015 and took a long break in 2016 (I spent more than half of 2016 doing nothing much productive at home!) That was actually when I started blogging. Once SPM result was out, I applied for several scholarships as I intended to study overseas. As luck would have it, my applications were accepted and I aced some of the interviews (click here for my interview sharings). I decided to accept Bank Negara scholarship because I assumed that it is one of the most prestigious scholarships in Malaysia (it is mainly because BNM used to sponsor well-known Malaysian students such as Dr. Amalina and Nik Nur Madihah). I have chosen to pursue Economics in the UK and hence I am required to study A-Levels as my preparation programme before flying off there.

Frankly speaking, I had no idea on how my life would be before going to the university. I mean, I wasn't even sure on what course I wanted to pursue in the university. Back in MRSM, I told everyone that I wanted to study Medicine, so that I could treat my parents in the future in case they were unhealthy. Still and all, there were no scholarships that would willing to send students overseas for Medicine. There were two exceptions, though. Firstly, I would have the chance to study Medic overseas if I get straight A+ and applied for Kijang Emas BNM Scholarship (which is certainly not applicable to my case). Secondly, I can apply for MARA, provided that I do not apply to JPA or JPA-MARA scholarships. I personally was not keen on applying for MARA mainly because it is a convertible loan. FYI, convertible loan means that I would have to pay back a portion of my sponsorship. Plus, I actually applied to JPA; although I didn't attend the interview due to personal reason.

So, after having received several scholarship offers, I was left to either studying Economics or Engineering. If you ask me, I am really not into engineering as on that time I thought that engineering is a course that requires me to be handy and creative (which is not my thing). Economics, on the other hand, is very alien to me. This is because I came from a science background and I did not take Economics in secondary school. However, I admit that Economics had intrigued me so much ever since BNM interview as I really had no idea on what is Economics all about. Furthermore, amongst all my scholarship offers, BNM is the most appealing in terms of the country that I would go as well as the job prospect. I had always wanted to study in the UK because of its strategic location to travel, especially to Europian countries and other neighbouring countries.

Around May, I was informed that my preparatory college for A-Levels would be Kolej Tuanku Ja'afar (KTJ). Initially, I was really against the decision as I did not want to embark on another boarding school life. I honestly preferred to do my A-Levels at Taylors' College. But to put it briefly, I did not regret going to KTJ. In my next entry, I would share about KTJ, which is one of my unpredictable life stages.

See you later! :)
